The Beginning

Hello All,

Well I arrived in Amman at 7:20ish pm here (8 hrs ahead of SK).  After three flights and meeting tons of interesting people it's very nice to have a bed to sleep on :)! The day started off with a bang... I found out that I do not qualify as a full-time student according to the National and Provincial Student Loan center, so I am required to begin paying off my loan; while it's not a huge amount it is a bit of a pain in the rear end. Also there was a bit of a kerfuffle at the airport with my tickets (big thanks to the wonderful staff at Winnipeg International Airport for their help and my parents for keeping me calm), but after that things went rather smoothly.  The flight from Winnipeg to Montreal was lovely, not only did I sleep most of the way there, but I sat beside a lovely retired lady originally from Winnipeg area, but has lived in Paris (France) for the past 35 years.  We had a delightful conversation, and I was very sad to part ways when we arrived in Montreal. From Montreal to Paris, was a little lonely... probably didn't help that my seatmates only spoke French plus I was tired, grumpy and couldn't fall asleep on the seven hr flight... but on the positive side, because I ordered the vegetarian meal I received my food first (which was delicious) AND I watched three movies I have wanted to see for a while now (FOR FREE, sort of).  Paris airport was a bit of a gong-show... messed up my directions and ended up going back and forth between two terminals, luckily the staff is very friendly and helped me out. Paris to Amman was AWESOME... I slept for most of the time, got more delicious food, flew over the Alps (so amazing!!!) and had a lovely conversation with my seat mate who is from Saudi Arabia (I think) and studying medicine in Jordan.
Once I got to Amman, Margie (a my contact from Jordan and who I'm staying with for the time being) picked me up (SO AWESOME, THANK YOU) and we drove the 40ish min to Amman from the airport. I received a quick tour of one part of the city.  Margie has a fabulous apartment, with a gorgeous view from the balcony; you can even see some of the Roman ruins from it. She also has an adorable cat named Noosa, which is fun to play with.
In some ways this place reminds me a bit of India (layout, architecture, stores, etc), but it also has it's own distinct flavor (and without the strong smells). It is also quiet warm here, I had way too many clothing layers on!
Well I should go it's 12am here and I have a full day tomorrow... miss you all!

<3 Love from Jordan,
Kate
